Booking choice: The 3 Hour Seattle City Tour, from $111 per person. Check dates Tour details
Seattle's hop-on hop-off bus ran its last summer timetable on 11 October 2026. That leaves winter visitors with the guided tours: small buses with a live guide, a handful of walking tours and the harbor cruise.
None of them stop for rain. What changes is the light, the crowds and a few attractions on the route that cut their opening days.
The quick answer
The guided city bus tours on this site carry no seasonal end date on their listings and say they run in all weather. The hop-on hop-off timetable on Viator ended on 11 October 2026. The Argosy harbor cruise sails daily all year except Christmas Day. In December the sun sets around 4:20 PM, so morning departures get the most daylight.
Is the Seattle hop-on hop-off bus running in winter 2026-27?
Not on the timetable sold through Viator: its 2026 schedule ran from 24 April to 11 October. One reseller lists a reduced hourly winter loop.
The City Sightseeing listing on Viator gives five seasonal bands, from every 20 minutes in high summer to every 30 minutes in spring and autumn, and the last band closes on 11 October. After that, one reseller lists an hourly service from 10 AM to 3 PM between 1 November and 16 April. An hourly bus that stops at 3 PM is not much of a hop-on hop-off. Miss one and you stand in the rain for 60 minutes.
Our view: in winter a guided tour with a fixed group is the better buy. The bus also scored 2.5 from 84 reviews on Viator, with guests reporting long waits and narration out of sync, even in summer. The full comparison is in our city tour vs hop-on hop-off guide.
Which Seattle city tours still run in winter?
All the guided bus tours, walks and the harbor cruise listed here keep selling dates after October. Several listings say they operate in all weather.
The 3 Hour Seattle City Tour has a 10 AM option with hotel pickup from select downtown and airport hotels, and is listed at about 4 hours, not 3. Seattle's Best Tours leaves at 1 PM from the Hyatt Regency on Howell Street, and the Premier 3-Hour City Tour uses three downtown meeting points. Both of those say "Operates in all weather conditions, please dress appropriately". Read that as a promise and a warning.
For a shorter outing, Beneath the Streets runs an hour in and under Pioneer Square and is listed as rain or shine. The Argosy harbor cruise has year-round daily sailings except Christmas Day, with many more sailings from May to September than in winter.
| Option | Winter status | Start | From (USD) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 Hour Seattle City Tour | No seasonal end listed | 10 AM, hotel pickup | $111 |
| Bus tour from the Hyatt | Runs, all weather | 1 PM | $89 |
| Premier 3-Hour City Tour | Runs, all weather | 3 meeting points | $88 |
| Beneath the Streets | Rain or shine | 102 Cherry St | $32 |
| Elliott Bay harbor cruise | Daily except 25 Dec | Pier 55 | $46 |
| Hop-on hop-off bus | Summer timetable over | Ended 11 Oct | $65 |
Morning departure, hotel pickup, about 4 hours with Pike Place Market and the Ballard Locks.
Check dates for the 3 Hour Seattle City TourHow much daylight do you get in Seattle in December?
About eight and a half hours. On 21 December the sun rises at 7:54 AM and sets at 4:20 PM.
Those are the sunrise-sunset.org figures for December 2026. The day is shortest on the solstice at 8 hours 25 minutes, and only 4 minutes longer by New Year's Eve.
That matters for a city tour, because half of the payoff is the view: Kerry Park on Queen Anne Hill, the skyline from the water, Mount Rainier on a clear day. A 10 AM start keeps the whole tour in daylight. The 1 PM tour from the Hyatt finishes shortly before sunset, which can be lovely at Kerry Park and useless if the cloud is down.
| Date (2026) | Sunrise | Sunset | Daylight |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 December | 7:36 AM | 4:19 PM | 8 h 43 min |
| 21 December | 7:54 AM | 4:20 PM | 8 h 25 min |
| 31 December | 7:57 AM | 4:27 PM | 8 h 30 min |

What is a Seattle city tour like in the rain?
Mostly fine. You see the city through bus windows between short stops, and the guides know where the cover is.
November is Seattle's wettest month, according to the WeatherSpark climate averages. On a bus tour the stops are short: the flagship lists 15 minutes in Pioneer Square and 20 at Pike Place Market, and the market is mostly under a roof anyway.
Walking tours need more thought. A guest on the Welcome to Seattle walk wrote that "Even though it was raining he was aware of stopping at places with overhangs to get out of the rain a bit". That tour covers about 2.5 miles. Bring a hood, not an umbrella, which is a nuisance in a group.
Mount Rainier is the casualty. The harbor cruise listing promises it weather permitting, and in winter that is a real condition. If you only get one clear day, spend it on a tour with views, and keep the underground walk for the wet one.
What changes on the tour route in winter?
The Ballard Locks visitor center cuts to five days a week, the salmon run is long over, and Klondike Gold Rush park opens a little later.
The Hiram M. Chittenden Locks are the longest stop on the flagship, 30 minutes. The grounds and fish ladder are free all year, but the visitor center opens Thursday to Monday from October to April. The main salmon run is July to September, so in winter the underwater viewing windows are quiet. Watch the boats lock through instead. Our Ballard Locks guide has more.
In Pioneer Square, the Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park opens 10 AM to 5 PM from September to May, an hour later than in summer. Entry is free. The Space Needle stays a pass-by on every tour, winter or summer; our Space Needle tickets post covers going up.
Do you need to book winter city tours in advance?
Book a few days ahead, more for the holidays. The flagship confirms within 48 hours and needs a minimum number of guests.
The flagship listing says it may cancel if there are not enough passengers and then offers an alternative or a full refund. It also confirms within 48 hours, not on the spot, so do not book it the night before.
Every tour here cancels free up to 24 hours before. If the forecast turns, move the bus tour and do Beneath the Streets that day instead. Prices are compared in our price guide.
